Last Friday Pete Burgess and the rest of his management team attended the North Carolina Department of Labor’s 30th annual Safety Award Banquet in Mt. Airy, NC. This annual award ceremony is held to honor North Carolina’s safest employers. NCDOL’s safety award program was put in place to provide businesses, private and public, with the incentive to put policies and training in place to reduce injuries and maintain good safety records.
In order to qualify for this safety award a company has to have had no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location for which the award was given and have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry group.
Department of Labor’s Commissioner, Cherie Berry, presented the safety awards to the honorees. Award recipients ranged from smaller local telephone companies to larger organizations, such as Hanes Brand, Inc. Tar Heel Basement Systems’ Owner, Pete Burgess, was ecstatic to receive recognition for his continuous efforts to keep all Tar Heel’s employees as healthy and safe as possible. Weekly safety training is required throughout each department at Tar Heel Basement Systems, which we feel is essential for preventing accidents and injuries and maintaining a safe workplace.
