U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year

Tar Heel Basement Systems was named the top Veteran-Owned Small Business in the Nation through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Award winners were announced at the Dream Big Awards Celebration as part of the 2017 Small Business Summit, which took place September 10-13, 2017 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.

The Veteran-Owned Business Achievement Award recognizes a veteran-owned, small business that has attained outstanding business achievement and exemplifies contributions made by veteran-owned businesses in the country. Tar Heel Basement Systems was chosen for this award because of its continuous growth in revenue and employees, innovative business performance and strategies, employee and customer retention, and contributions to the community.

Owner Pete Burgess was an Office in the NAVY, which included a 6-month deployment to Viet Nam where his ship was assigned the job of shadowing an aircraft carrier for protection and support. “My years of military experience helped me grow considerably towards being the man I am today,” said Burgess.
