Challenge

This typical Winston Salem, NC ranch style home had a crawl space that was very unpleasing to enter. After concerns of moisture and possible mold growth being confirmed by the homeowner’s HVAC company, Tar Heel Basement Systems came out to evaluate the concerns.

System Design Specialist, Ryan Arnett, completed a full assessment of the exterior and interior of the crawl space area to design a plan that would meet the homeowner’s goals while also completely removing the moisture intrusion and mildew.

Solution

The Crawl Space Team began by removing all of the debris and re-grading the space making an even surface below the home. In order to take care of the water intrusion, the Team installed the CrawlDrain Drainage System along the perimeter of the crawl space. The custom engineered drainage system is specifically designed for dirt floor crawl spaces and will not clog like traditional French Drains. The CrawlDrain will drain the water into the SafeDri sump pump that will pump the water out of the crawl space and away from the home.

The Team began sealing off the home from the Piedmont clay below by installing CrawlSeal 20mil. waterproof liner and sealed all of the open vents using X-Grade Crawl Space Insulation panels, both products are antimicrobial and will not mold or rot. The last step was installing the Aprilaire dehumidifier that works in junction with the CrawlSeal liner. The Aprilaire dehumidifier will keep humidity levels low preventing mold from growing creating a clean, conditioned crawl space.

The homeowners are excited to have a clean, bright area below their home and have no more worries about mold thanks to Tar Heel Basement System.
