Case Studies: High Point, NC – Messy Crawl Space Turned Tidy With CrawlSeal

Challenge

This older High Point, NC home had a crawl space that was beginning to show its age. The crawl space had no vapor barrier to protect the home above from the saturated clay and the crawl space floor was riddled with debris making it a cozy space for unwelcome pests to call home.

After confirmation from the homeowner’s pest control company of standing water in the crawl space, Tar Heel Basement Systems was there to help!

Solution

System Design Specialist, Geoff Keller, completed a full assessment of the exterior and interior of the crawl space to design a system that would take away the worry of standing water and moisture.

The Crawl Space team had to first remove all of the built up debris then permanently fixing the water intrusion problem by installed the CrawlDrain Drainage System engineered specifically for dirt floor crawl spaces. Because the old sump pump had failed to keep the water out of the crawl space, the Team installed the SafeDri sump pump that works exclusively with the CrawlDrain to keep water out of the crawl space, permanently.

Because there was no previous vapor barrier in the crawl space and the homeowner wanted to cover the ground to protect the home above, CrawlSeal 20mil. Liner was installed along the entire crawl space floor, foundation and piers to completely seal off the home from the dirt below. Unlike traditional 6mil. vapor barriers, the CrawlSeal 20mil. liner is as thick as a pool liner and will not rip if items are sat on top of it.

The last part of the encapsulation transformation was installing the Aprilaire Dehumidification System. The homeowner wanted to prevent mold growth and was pro-active by having the Aprilaire dehumidifier to keep humidity levels low and condition the crawl space air, making the area clean and fresh for years and years to come.

The homeowner is ecstatic to have their crawl space transformed from a scary, dark and debris filled place into a bright, dry and clean crawl space that could be used for storage thanks to Tar Heel Basement Systems.
