Case Studies: Walkertown, NC- Split Level Home Has Double Trouble

Challenge

This split level home in Walkertown, NC had both basement and crawl space concerns. After heavy rains, the homeowner noticed the basement carpet would become wet and mildewed causing the homeowner to throw out the carpeting. The crawl space would become saturated and constantly stay damp, creating a mold infestation along the floor joists. After several attempts of fixing the areas themselves with no solution, the homeowner’s gave Tar Heel Basement Systems a call.

Solution

System Design Specialist, Geoff Keller, was able to design a permanent solution that would address both the crawl space and basement problems needs.

The Team began with installing the BasementGutter Drainage System along the leaking basement wall. The engineered drainage system is patented to not clog and can be serviced through the inspection port unlike traditional French drain systems. The BasementGutter Drainage Systems accepts incoming water from the base of the walls and allows the water to flow into the sump pump.

The crawl space also had problems with water intrusion. The patented drainage system is just like the BasementGutter but engineered to work with dirt floors and will not clog over time. The CrawlDrain also catches intruding water and releases it into the sump pump. Not just any sump pump would do, in order to keep up with the needs of the basement and crawl space, the Team installed the SafeDri Triple Sump Pump, the King and Queen of sump pumps. The airtight lid keeps out moisture and debris while the (2) two pumps work to keep water out of the crawl space and basement and safely away from the home. The homeowner also chose to get the Battery Back-up Pumping System that will kick on in the event there is a power outage during a storm. Because the crawl space was so damp and mold had become a major problem, the old ripped up 6mil. vapor barrier was replaced with a tougher liner called CrawlSeal liner that will not rip, shred or tear over time and keep the crawl space sealed properly. The team also installed the Aprilaire Dehumidifier to keep humidity levels low and prevent future mold growth.

The homeowner is now relieved to have finally taken care of the two overwhelming problems thanks to the Tar Heel Basement Systems Team!
