Winston-Salem, NC - July 8th, 2015
Three very different Winston Salem companies partner to create a fun event for Big Brothers Big Sisters Summer Reading Program; Tar Heel Basement Systems, Merlot, and VanGogh, and Which Wich.
Tar Heel Basement Systems is excited to announce that we will be hosting an event for Big Brothers Big Sisters Summer Reading Program. This eight-week program runs from June through August. Different activities are planned throughout the week to promote the benefits of reading and to help these children improve their reading skills.
On Thursday, July 9th, Big Brothers Big Sisters will be venturing to Tar Heel Basement Systems for a fun and educational program. Many of THBS’ employees have volunteered to participate and build relationships with these children throughout the day. Our team of volunteers includes successful employees from all departments of our business: foremen, office professionals, marketing professionals, system design specialists and even the Owner of Tar Heel Basement Systems, Pete Burgess. The 12 children will be able to build relationships with men and women of different ages and different professions.
In order to make this event happen, Tar Heel Basement Systems has partnered with two local businesses to host a memorable and fun program for the children. The event will be from 10-1, beginning with a reading activity where the “Bigs” talk about their favorite children’s books and give the “Littles” these books to keep. Next, the children will get into their smocks and begin the painting activity. We will allow the children’s imaginations to run wild and future dreams come to reality as we ask them to paint their future “dream home.” We will end the fun-filled day with a healthy lunch.
Merlot and VanGogh are located on Burke St. in Winston Salem and offers art classes for adults, children, and groups. This fun and relaxed environment allow you to eat and drink while learning to paint your masterpiece. Kathy Shively, Owner of Van Gogh & Merlot, jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this incredible program. She was generous enough to donate ALL of the painting materials for the children to use while creating their dream home; easels, paint, canvases, paint brushes, water cups, plates, etc.
Which Wich is Winston Salem’s “the superior sandwich” company. With locations on Hanes Mall Blvd and Peace Haven, this sandwich shop allows you to create the sandwich of your dreams within minutes. Douglas Frail, Owner of Winston Salem Which Wich, is all about giving back to the community and offered to help us out with this meaningful event as well. Which Wich of Winston Salem is donating healthy boxed lunches for the children to enjoy once they have completed their art projects.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit organization that helps children facing adversity realize their potential and shape their futures. This mentoring network matches adult volunteers with children, ages 6-18, to develop positive relationships that have a lasting impact on the lives of these young people.
