The YMCA Bright Beginnings program has been helping children in need prepare for the upcoming school year since 1999. The Y takes 100 kids back to school shopping in August each year. These are all kids who their school guidance counselor feels need help and can’t afford to have what they need without the Y. They get $125 in new clothes from Target, a new book bag, and grade-appropriate school supplies. By offering these children a back-to-school shopping opportunity, it gives them the confidence to start the school year off with all the necessary supplies to succeed. Tar Heel Basement Systems is excited to help this mission by partnering with the Bryan YMCA in Greensboro, NC through their “Backpack Buddy” program.
The Bryan YMCA provided our team with a list of 25 children, grades 1st-8th, complete with a list of grade-appropriate school supplies needed for each child. Our employees then selected a child from our “wall of backpacks” and began school supply shopping for him or her! Thanks to Tar Heel Basement Systems, each child will receive a brand new backpack filled with a surplus of very much needed school supplies.
Since so many of our team members wanted to be involved in this wonderful project, we had more donors than we did children to buy for. Once we have all (25) backpacks filled, we will simply donate the extra supplies to the Bryan YMCA to supply any other children that are participating in the Bright Beginnings program.
If you would like to donate school supplies to the Bryan YMCA Bright Beginnings Program, please stop by our office in Winston Salem.
