Winston-Salem, NC - August 8th, 2016
With the 2016 school year right around the corner, Tar Heel Basement Systems is on a mission to help the children in our community start the school year with the necessary supplies to succeed. According to NC CHILD, “in 2014 Forsyth County had about 23,678 children younger than 5; about 37 percent are living below the poverty threshold.” That means that close to 10,000 children (in Forsyth) may be without the basic school supplies simply because their caregivers are unable to afford them. To that end, the slogan for our 2016 school supply drives is “Education Helps Build Solid Foundations.”
Each year THBS selects a local organization focused on the education and development of our youth, and we donate hundreds of school supplies to their cause. This year, we have selected Forsyth Family Services to be the recipient of our team’s generous donations. Family Services has been promoting school readiness of children ages 3 to 5 years old from low-income families since 1965. Their Head Start, Early Head Start, and the Family Services Shelter are just a few of the programs and services offered to children and families in need. This tremendous organization services families in Clemmons, Kernersville, Lewisville, Rural Hall, Tobaccoville, Walkertown, Winston-Salem and surrounding areas.
If you are interested in donating to our “Building Solid Foundations” school supply drive, we will be taking collections at our Winston Salem location through Monday, August 15th.
