Winston-Salem, NC - July 9th, 2013
The Ronald McDonald House of Winston Salem was established in 1984, offering 10 bedrooms to families with sick children. Currently, the RMHWS is one of five Ronald McDonald Houses in North Carolina and offers 35 bedrooms, three living rooms, two playrooms, a playground and a kitchen with home cooked meals almost every day.
Many of the families spend much of the day in the hospital with their sick children and do not have the time or resources to cook for themselves. Additionally, donations from the guest families only cover about 1% of operating costs, so the RMH relies heavily on volunteers to help prepare meals for the House families daily. The staff of Tar Heel Basement Systems wanted to contribute and will be volunteering to preparing a dinner for 60+ people at the Ronald McDonald House of Winston Salem on July 10th.
While a hot meal is greatly appreciated by the RMH staff and House families, Tar Heel Basement Systems would like to do more! That is why in addition to cooking a meal, Tar Heel Basement Systems has initiated a company-wide Pop Tab Collection to donate to the Ronald McDonald House of Winston Salem.
For the remainder of the year, the 35+ employees of Tar Heel Basement Systems will be collecting and turning in pop tabs to the designated distribution bin at the main office. Omni Source is a local company that offers the RMHWS funds for the aluminum collected, which goes directly to offset families that are not able to contribute.
These are just a few small steps that Tar Heel Basement Systems is taking to make a difference. Hopefully, there will be a continuous and growing partnership between the Ronald McDonald House and Tar Heel Basement Systems.
