Summer Blood Drive; 100 Days of Summer, Days of Hope

With schools out and families on vacation, it is often difficult to collect enough blood to meet patient needs during the summer months. Tar Heel Basement Systems has chosen to take the American Red Cross' "100 Days of Summer Sponsor Challenge" and is hosting a blood drive to give hope to patients in need. The drive will be held at Tar Heel Basement Systems facility (2910 Griffith Rd, Winston Salem, NC 27103) on Monday, June 30th from 10:00-2:30.

Winston-Salem, NC - June 18th, 2014

Summer is the season we’ve all been waiting for. It’s 100 days of cookouts, swimming pools, and outdoor adventures. It’s 100 ways to have fun in the sun, catch some shade or get out of town. It’s 100 chances to clear the calendar for what’s most important. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. This summer, there are 100 chances to give hope. Each day the American Red Cross needs 15,000 blood donations to meet the needs of patients at approximately 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. With schools out and families on vacation, it is often difficult to collect enough blood to meet patient needs during the summer months.

Team Tar Heel saves lives at the 2014 Blood Drive

Tar Heel Basement Systems has chosen to take the American Red Cross’ “100 Days of Summer Sponsor Challenge” and is hosting a blood drive to give hope to patients in need. The drive will be held at Tar Heel Basement Systems facility (2910 Griffith Rd, Winston Salem, NC 27103) on Monday, June 30th from 10:00-2:30. Our goal for the drive is 50 donations, with 35 of them coming from Tar Heel employees. We need the help from everyone in the community to reach and hopefully surpass our goal! Walk-ins are welcome and very much needed!

Why is donating blood so important?

–> To help save lives! Every donation (1pint of blood) may help save up to 3 lives!

–> More than 41,000 blood donations are needed every day.

–> Although an estimated 38% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, less than 10% actually do each year.

–> Blood products are essential for the treatment of accident victims, surgical and sickle cell disease patients, those receiving cancer treatments, premature babies and many others.

–> Sickle cell disease affects more than 70,000 people in the U.S. About 1,000 babies are born with the disease each year. Sickle cell patients can require frequent blood transfusions throughout their lives.

–> More than 1.6 million people were diagnosed with cancer last year. Many of them will need blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment.

–> A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood.

–> Blood cannot be manufactured – it can only come from generous donors.

Something to think about… if you began donating blood at age 17 and donated every 56 days until you reached 76, you would have donated 48 gallons of blood, potentially helping save more than 1,000 lives! Its never too late to start saving lives! Stop by Tar Heel Basement Systems’ facility on June 30th to donate blood and you will become someone’s hero in less than 30 minutes.
