Winston-Salem, NC - December 5th, 2014
As part of our Pay It Forward program, it is extremely important to us to be involved in helping those in our community this holiday season. This time of year is especially hard for some families, and we feel it is important to do our part to help those less fortunate than us. This season we are partnering with the Children’s Council of Watauga County & the Jaycees of Winston Salem to help make the holidays special for dozens of underprivileged children.
The Children’s Council is an organization that helps provide opportunities and services to the families of Watauga County and surrounding areas. The mission of the council is “to build a strong foundation for children’s learning and development by strengthening families, the early childhood system, and the wider community.” They are closely involved with DSS, Oasis, and their Local shelter. They also help provide affordable child care, family support services, and educational programs.
This year they already have a very long list of families asking for help, so we are doing our part by making a Tar Heel Basement Systems’ Angel Tree. Each angel on our tree will have the name of one child in need, their age, gender, clothing/shoe size, and any particular wish list items. We are asking our employees to choose an angel and help make a family’s holiday wishes come true! The THBS Angel Tree will have 20 boys and girls, ages 0-12 to choose from and buy clothes and presents for.
Each year, the Jaycees of Winston Salem and the Salvation Army team up to bring you the Christmas Cheer Project! The Salvation Army selects 60 local underprivileged children to take part in this special one-day event. Each child starts the day with a delicious breakfast followed by shopping for Christmas presents for themselves and their family at Target, then they take a photo with Santa and spend the rest of the day at the Airbound Trampoline Park in Winston Salem. The Jaycees raise money at events throughout the year to host this project in hopes that each child will be able to spend at least $150 on gifts.
Volunteers are needed to escort the children around Target while they find their perfect Christmas gifts. After each child has found their presents, another group of volunteers will wrap all of their presents for them. The presents will then be taken to the Salvation Army of Winston Salem and delivered to the children’s homes closer to Christmas. There is no need for volunteers to spend any money on the day of the event, just spend time with the children. We are excited to announce that many of our employees have volunteered their time to this extraordinary event. The 24th Annual Christmas Cheer Project will be held on Saturday, December 13th from 8:00-2:00.
Tar Heel Basement Systems is very excited to partner with both of these wonderful organizations this holiday season. We are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to help make people’s lives better each and every day; this includes our employees, our customers, and our community! If you want to get involved and be a part of either of our December Pay It Forward Initiatives, please contact us at 888-333-1322. Help is always needed!
