The Bryan YMCA in Greensboro is constantly working to help children in the community head towards “bright futures,” which is precisely what their Bright Beginnings program aims to accomplish. Since 1999, the YMCA has helped thousands of children in need prepare for the school year by offering them book bags loaded with school supplies.
With hundreds of children in need each year, this program would not be possible without the help of its community members and local business partners. It is for this reason that Tar Heel Basement Systems reached out to the Bryan YMCA to become a “Backpack Buddy.”
Volunteer Coordinator, Elizabeth Minehart, sent over the names of (25) children in the program, along with a list of grade-appropriate school supplies needed for each child. The Tar Heel Basement Systems team members each chose a child from the list, purchased a backpack and filled it with the school supplies listed.
THBS employees that did not have a child to buy for simply purchased extra school supplies to donate to the YMCA to help fill other children’s backpacks. All 25 children received a backpack with a surplus of school supplies to help start their school year off on the right foot. More than 100 additional school supplies were donated to the Bright Beginnings program from the THBS team!
