The Hammerbird course was significant to many of the runners because it was mapped through a neighborhood of more than 80 new and renovated Habitat homes & 4 that were currently under construction. It is truly powerful to see the families standing on the porches of these homes cheering on the runners. It definitely hit home to many of the participants.
The 2015 Habitat for Humanity Hammerbird 5K was held this past weekend in Winston Salem. This year marked a record number of participants, with more than 300 people walking or running the 3.2 miles through the historic Boston-Thurmond neighborhood.
Tar Heel Basement Systems has always been a supporter and donor of Habitat for Humanity. Over the last 3 years, Tar Heel Basement Systems has donated more than $100,000 in labor and materials to Habitat for Humanity organizations across Northwest North Carolina. Our crawl space encapsulation system is a huge energy and health benefit to these homes so we are more than happy to offer them whenever we can.
The Hammerbird 5K was another fun way for our company to help out this wonderful organization. You could spot our team of 18 walking/running the course in their bright green Team Tar Heel Runs t-shirts. We hope to have double the number of participants next year and plan to continue supporting this incredible organization.
