Basement dehumidifier

Why should I dehumidify my basement?

Dehumidifying the lower half of your house will do wonders for many areas of your entire home. It will inhibit mold growth, drastically reduce the amount of indoor allergens, keep your home at a comfortable temperature and lower your energy costs. Pairing a dehumidifying system with a basement waterproofing system will make an even bigger difference.

Why should I stay away from household dehumidifiers?

1. You need to empty them by hand. If it takes about 12 hours for a cheap dehumidifier to fill up, you would have to empty it 14 times a week for it to be running at an effective rate.

2. They are simply too small. The cold coil is the part of the dehumidifier that actually takes the water out of the air, so size definitely matters. The fan in a household dehumidifier is also quite small, causing it to circulate air very poorly.

3. They are rated and designed to take water out of hot air (up to ~80 degrees Fahrenheit), so putting it in a colder basement will drastically decrease its effectiveness. Basements and crawlspaces can still be very wet in the fall and winter months, so your dehumidifier must be working 24/7/365.

4. Store bought dehumidifiers do a poor job of filtering air and removing allergens and mold spores from the air. Dust mites are rated #1 in indoor allergens and need only a 50% humidity level to survive, thrive and multiply. If you’re not ready every 12 hours to empty your cheaper dehumidifier, chances are your home will meet or exceed that humidity rating.

Why should I install a Tar Heel Basement Air System?

1. The Tar Heel Basement Air System will do all of the hard work for you. The most impressive feature is its ability to drain itself! It features an 8′ long gravity hose to lead any collected moisture to your sump pump and out of your home.

2. The Tar Heel dehumidifier and air filtration system is equipped with a very large cold coil and a powerful 250 cfm blower to keep the air circulating. It runs the existing dry, cold air through a special heat-exchange core that pre-cools the incoming wet air and recaptures energy.

3. Tar Heel Basement Systems’ Tar Heel Dehumidifier is much better able to remove moisture from cold air because of its large cold coil and fan. During the fall or winter, the Tar Heel dehumidifier will keep working for you to keep your home dry and comfortable.

4. As a result of the Tar Heel Dehumidifier’s high efficiency and effectiveness, mold growth will be inhibited and indoor allergens will be noticeably decreased. We have even heard of a doctor in West Virginia actually prescribing this dehumidifier and air filtration system to his allergen sensitive patients!
