Commercial Crawl Space Gets a Fix
Friday, March 6th, 2015
This doctor’s office in Boone, NC had an unhealthy crawl space below the building. The water intrusion and exposed soil in this 11,300 sq. ft. crawl space was becoming a growing concern that could no longer be ignored. The doctors that own the practice were referred to Tar Heel Basement Systems for help to correct all of the water issues and to create a clean, healthy crawl space. Due to the unique building design Tar Heel Basement Systems needed to custom design a system that would keep this crawl space dry for good.
System Design Specialist, Andy Krause, completed a full inspection of the large commercial crawl space and designed a solution that would create a healthy environment beneath the medical office. The CrawlDrain drainage system was installed along the base of the perimeter walls in order to collect groundwater and moisture pushing through the foundation walls. The CrawlDrain system is specifically designed for dirt floor crawl spaces and does not clog, unlike traditional french drain systems. The CrawlDrain catches the water and directs it into the SafeDri sump pump (that was also installed). With an airtight lid, the SafeDri automatically pumps the water out of the crawl space and away from the foundation walls. To prevent water vapor from entering the offices above the exposed earth, the installation crew installed the CrawlSeal encapsulation system. The CrawlSeal liner was installed throughout the crawl space including up the walls and around the support piers. To eliminate any threat of mold growth throughout the large crawl space, five (5) Tar Heel dehumidifiers were installed to condition the crawl space air and keep humidity levels low. The last step was replacing the thin, rotted crawl space door that was allowing water and pests into the area. Tar Heel installation crew installed the Infinity Door, an insulated door that creates an air tight seal when closed. The Infinity door is also rot, mildew and rust resistant and comes with a dead bolt lock.
Now this medical office has a healthy crawl space envoirnment thanks to Tar Heel Basement Systems!
