Prevent Wood Rot Through Crawl Space Encapsulation

Schedule A Free Inspection
Wednesday, July 20th, 2016

There are a few ways for water vapor and humidity to enter your crawl space: open vents, exposed dirt floor, access doors and block foundation walls.

Having a damp environment below your home is unhealthy and destructive. Mold thrives and reproduces by producing airborne spores by the millions attaching to anything organic in the space. Fiberglass insulation and the wood floor system of your home fall victim to the active moisture and mold. Long-term exposure will cause wood rot and your home’s infrastructure to fail.

Unfortunately, 6mil polyethylene liners cannot protect your home’s floor system correctly. 6mil polyethylene cannot attach to the crawl space walls, vents or piers. Even by installing it along the floor of the crawl space, there is no way to prevent water vapor from entering the space through the walls, piers, and vents.

While moisture is one of the main culprits in floor system failure, it also allows for critters to thrive in the space as well. Damp and wet environments are a welcoming platform for unwanted pests and critters. Rot and decay occur in damp environments causing costly structural damage.

Luckily, this can all be prevented by the CrawlSeal Encapsulation System. A correct method to creating a dry and healthy environment below your home.

The CrawlSeal System is used to isolate the home from the earth completely and permanently. The liner is manufactured in 7 layers using a blend of polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, and polyester cord reinforcement creating a liner that is 20mil thick. The bright white look allows for homeowners to easily see their crawl space is free of mold, insects, and dirt.

By completely separating your home from the exposed earth below using the CrawlSeal System, this will drastically reduce the relative humidity in the crawl space. As the interior foundation walls, vents and support piers become sealed as well, the humidity reduces even more, creating a healthier home.

Prevent your home’s infrastructure from falling victim to mold, mildew, and moisture. Have your crawl space encapsulated, correctly using the CrawlSeal System.
