We used Tar Heel Basement Systems repair a rotted sill beam on the front of our 100+ year old house. From the time Clint showed up to do our estimate untill the crew left having completed the work it was a great experience. Clint was very thorough and ensured we understood everything before he left. When the crew arrived the Foreman, Evan spoke in terms I as the homeowner could understand. He went over everything again and made sure I knew the scope of work, the time line, etc. Matt and Cody did a great job. They made quick work of getting all the old insulation out of the crawlspace. They all did a great job with the structural work and that did one last walk around and picked up all the old insulation down to the smallest pieces. Very professional crew

The crew that came out to my house (Adam Canter, Ryan Oldman, and Jayden Watlington) where very professional, well mannered, and knowledgeable. Jeffrey Traub came out the day after I called the company. I had a large tree root that appeared to be going under my house and I was concerned it could cause cracks in my slab. He was on time and very thorough in examining my house. While he didn't find any problems he did spot a couple of issues for me to keep my eye on. He also explained I probably had lots of tree roots going under my house and that I just couldn't see them. My neighborhood had been built on land that was heavily wooded. He also explained HOW they fix a SLAB house that has foundation problems. I had envisioned all sorts of nightmare scenarios such as having to move all my belongings out and having my new floors ripped up. Luckily that is NOT how they repair it. Just knowing if that horrible day ever came where I would need their services, that it wouldn't be the nightmare I had thought, put my mind at ease. Jeffrey's explanation of the care they take to preserve my flooring while making repairs was very reassuring. The person who set up the appointment was also very thorough in asking questions to determine what the issue might be and which serviceman to send. Since I don't have a basement or crawl space I never thought I could have foundation problems. I was wrong but luckily I do not have any at this time and thanks to Jeffrey I am knowledgeable about what to look for in order to catch problems in their early stage when it is easiest and cheapest to fix. I would definitely recommend this company and suggest you ask for Jeffrey Traub to come to your house.

My family moved into a new house 3 weeks ago. The seller declined to fill out a disclosure, so we’re finding all of its issues through a combination of our general home inspection and contractors. The first call I made to get an opinion on my potential foundation issue might be Tar Heel’s main competitor in the area: Carolina Basement systems. That rep came out, pointed to a couple of cracks in my trim, showed a 1/4” difference in height on different sides of my basement, and insisted I needed 19 helical piers at a cost of $42k. He also tried to sell me 17k worth of waterproofing despite having no known water intrusion issues. I knew I needed a second opinion. I called Tar Heel basement systems next. They sent out Colin Schmid. He sat down with me and asked me what my goals were and he actually listened to what I told him. He did an assessment of my foundation and determined I don’t actually need any work at all. All of the “evidence” cited by the other company was actually a combination of poor workmanship, an imperfect slab pour and cosmetic issues that weren’t at all related to my foundation. He came to that conclusion rather quickly, but stayed for 2 hours to confirm his findings and be sure that what he was telling me was true. Colin could’ve piggybacked the other company’s findings and offered to do the work for less, to sell me something I didn’t need… instead, he acted with integrity. I’m writing this review because I think that needs to be commended. If I ever do need foundation work in the future, Tar Heel Basements systems will be the first company I call, specifically because of Colin Schmid.

Incredible experience working with Groundworks (formerly known as Tarheel Basement)- they were incredibly responsive and easy to work with, and saved the day for my clients with a major repair needed on their home to sell. Not only was their customer service awesome, but they were priced significantly better than other foundation companies. Matt Cotte worked directly with me and was such a huge help in determining the best route for my clients to take repair wise on a large scale project. He was quick to come out and provide multiple quotes and explain them in thorough detail. I received multiple updates throughout the process for peace of mind and clarity. I cannot recommend Groundworks enough!

I went with Tarheel Basement Systems to have my crawlspace encapsulated. I liked the Sean Madden gave but I have to admit the follow up was spotty. I was given dates work would be done but I had to call to find out exact times. I expected a little more communication but, in the end, Tarheel showed up when they said they would, and they did the work they promised. Macai and Fred did a great job encapsulating the crawlspace. I'm pretty picky and I went down and inspected things myself. There is no way I could have done a good a job as they did. The work these guys do is grueling in unsavory conditions. I had a small issue with the crawlspace door and dehumidifier pump, but both were fixed in short order. In the end I'm happy with how things turned out and I would recommend Tarheel to anyone looking to get their crawlspace encapsulated.

We had foundation issues and a sinking outdoor porch. Tar heel basement systems assessed the situation, created a plan to address the issues (Matt Cote & Steele Welch). The foundation crew (Jaun & Alex) and the "poly" crew (Andrew, Cody, Javi & Al) came out to our home and performed the necessary work to fix the problems. I had many apprehensions about the job wondering if I made the right choice of contractors but when Juan S. and Alex S. rolled up to my house I was immediately blown away by their openness and politeness. They were genuinely honest in their accessment and actually told me that the treatment might not work and gave me choices of one was " no charge" and left with a smile which in turn gave me a little bit more of faith in humanity. We would highly recommend Groundworks. Our crawl space was showing signs of deterioration. The insulation was beginning to droop and hold moisture. We were concerned this would damage our floor joists at some point. We are so thankful for Certified Field Inspector Jay Yount. He spent more than an hour inspecting our crawl space and making recommendations as well as presenting proposals to work with our budget. Jonathan Ruiz, Julian Bruno Bernal and Roy Ruiz were highly qualified and professional on site. They kept us informed throughout the process and delivered high quality results. We are very pleased with the results.

We had some downspouts installed. I’ll admit the first work that was done was apparently done incorrectly by one of the installers because we had worse problems and the work in general is not what I expected. (Based on previous and unrelated work by the same company). However, once it was brought to the company’s attention they responded quickly and stood behind their commitment and returned to handle repairs correctly. So far we are pleased with the repaired work..esthetically. We will need some rain before I can speak to resolution success.

Our front porch stairs had sunk considerably causing the last step up to our house to be too high and tripping people all the time! We found Target Basement Systems and they got it fixed within a week. There work was precise and attention to detail excellent. We were very pleased with how quickly they scheduled our repair (the next week). They showed up exactly as promised and it looks great. You can’t even tell it was repaired. I highly recommend Roswin S, Justin H and Chris A. Only regret is not finding them sooner.

We had 2 segments of work done: (1) adding piers to the front foundation of our house, and (2) adding a beam and some piers in the crawlspace to a center section of the house to better support some interior walls. We were very impressed by everyone at Tar Heel Basement Systems from beginning to end – from the initial analysis and proposal to the actual work to follow-up. John Reavis was very professional, thorough, and knowledgeable when he performed the initial site visit and put together a proposal for us. He was also very good about following up and communicating in general. Both crews who did the work were very confident, professional, and courteous. They really seemed like they knew what they were doing and took their time to make sure it was done right. They also were very good about communicating arrival times and progress on the 2 projects. Everyone we spoke with at the office was very helpful during the whole process. In particular, we had multiple interactions with Morgan about scheduling, arranging payment, and follow-up paperwork. We had some bad weather when the work was originally scheduled to be done, but everyone stayed in touch with us and made rescheduling easy. Tar Heel might be more expensive than some other options, but this is a case where you truly get what you pay for. We can't imagine anyone doing a better job.

My Service Tech Matthew K did an awesome job identifying the problem (water seepage) and finding a way to address it without breaking the bank (a sump pump system). The foreman Grace H and her team were able to come out just a week or two after I scheduled the work, and they were fantastic to work with — on time, professional, friendly, and very patient even though I had a lot of questions. I would definitely recommend Tar Heel — I feel like this is one of the best investments I've made in my home.
