Does Crawl Space Encapsulation Stop Rodents?
While some people choose to have domesticated rats or mice as pets, most homeowners shudder at the thought of rodents running rampant in their homes.
In a previous article, we answered the question, “What Are The Worst Home Pests In North Carolina?”
This article answers the question, “Does Crawl Space Encapsulation Stop Rodents?” Let’s dive in.
Does Crawl Space Encapsulation Stop Rodents?
Pests and rodents, like mice and rats, are drawn to damp, dark, secluded areas like your crawl space for food, breeding, and shelter. They spread disease and contaminate your home with waste, so eliminating them is key.
Sealing your crawl space with waterproofing and encapsulation solutions is the best way to discourage rodent infestations. Systems like a vapor barrier, dehumidifier, and blocking off crawl space vents curb moisture. This creates a less desirable environment for critters and makes it difficult for them to enter the crawl space area.
Can Crawl Space Repair Experts Remove Rodents?
While Tar Heel Basement Systems’ proprietary insulation panels are manufactured with an integrated termiticide to deter termites, our systems do not actively kill rodents.
It’s best to contact a qualified exterminator to address and prevent active infestations.

John, the Field Inspector; Sarah, the Project Coordinator; and Tom and Tyler, the Installation Technicians, were all simply outstanding in their professional knowledge, skills, and expertise. Their communication was flawless in keeping me informed about the schedule and all details of the process. To find cracks in the floors of one’s home is a very unnerving experience, but to find such responsive and excellent professionals to successfully repair the situation leaves one completely reassured that the serious issues have been completely resolved. From the initial inquiry to the completion of the project, my experience is that Tar Heel Basement Systems is simply the Best in the Business in terms of total customer satisfaction and service. We had the "A Team" (Nyles R. Jeff T. and Tyree M.) come out to do our crawl space, and they lived up to their title. Nyles walked me through all the work they were going to do, he clearly explained it and was very patient with me, and all my questions; even as I crawled around their work space, they took the time to answer all of my questions. As an artisan I can tell when someone has done good, mediocre or bad work. Even if you don't know the work itself, you can tell by how the work is being performed, executed and completed; the detail and dedication to the work itself. Nyles, Jeff and Tyree, the "A Team", were Awesome!

Cannot say enough about the good experience we had with Justin and his crew of Demarte, Quentin and Harry. They were punctual, called before arrival and all were friendly and appeared to be Jgenuinely glad to do the job. Justin explained what they would be doing and answered all questions before starting work. His team was efficient and completed the job much faster than we anticipated. Justin was very diligent in making sure our floors were leveled to his and our satisfaction and we were very pleased to see cracks between the ceiling and wall disappear. Nowadays it is rare to have someone exceed expectations but Justin and his crew were exceptional and we would not hesitate to to give them our highest recommendation. John and CC Hensley

I was very comfortable to work with Tar Heel Basement from the beginning to get the quotation until the work was done. The quotation process was very transparent and clear. Everything was clearly explained, questions were answered by the lead person before the work started. I felt this company is very transparent comparing with its famous competition in my area. The guy from the competition showed up to give me a quotation started his conversation, "how much you want to pay? How much my competition's quotation was? I can match to it" before asking me about the project.

Devin arrived on time (1200 noon) just like he said would. I was pleasantly surprised that the inspection included inside and around the outside of the home, as well as the crawl space. I'm glad that no major issues were found . I was impressed with his level of professionalism, as he went as far as to literally record his findings into a slide presentation. He even went as far as to seal around the door to the crawl space in an effort to ensure the possibility of water no longer pooling by the door. I'm very pleased that the encapsulation done by Tarheel Basement Systems is still holding firm. Devin showed me what Tarheel Basement Systems can do for me regarding insulation. Though I'm not ready to make this move now, Devin has given something me to think about.

After an annual maintenance service of our crawl space encapsulation and at the suggestion of Grant we decided to move forward with a plan to stabilize an area of our foundation that was weakened for some time. Tyree and Christian came out two days later to install beams and jacks to secure that part of the foundation. Tyree explained everything that was going to happen, what it would do to stabilize the foundation, and how long it would take. Everything went very smoothly and I went into the crawlspace to inspect the work and learn how the system would add support to the foundation. Tyree explained in terms I could understand. Both men were professional and finished in the time they laid out. This is my second experience with Tar Heel and both went well.

I was extremely satisfied with the professionalism and hard work that Adam Canter (lead), Tim Witherspoon and Ryan Oldman displayed. They worked well together to complete the job on time and above expectations. I was impressed with the systems but even more impressed with the way it was installed, the efforts to control the dust and the cleanup that occurred throughout the job. I would suggest you ask for this crew by name. I had the work quoted by others but there was no warranty included. I think the extra money spent was well worth the quality, warranty and included follow-up inspections. The lifting peer systems installed closed the cracks in the brick veneer on the length of 3 sides of the house as planned. I observed the installation of the wall braces and could see the immediate reduction in bowing of wall. Very happy with results.

My inspector, Carter Lassiter, was very professional and educational in helping me understand exactly what I needed to have done underneath my house to ensure my 100 yr+ historical home remained in tact. Prior to Carter coming out, I had paid another company to do what I thought was going to fix my crawl space and unfortunately after one year I started to see issues arise again. Wood rot, moisture, etc. When Sam and Josh (the production team) arrived, they were just as professional and informative of the work they would be doing in my crawlspace. I felt confident from the first inspection all the way to the production team who completed the work to correct and truly fix my crawlspace. Having a warranty from Tarheel Basement makes me feel much more comfortable this go round compared to who I used before. 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND

We had the crawlspace sealed back in 2020. Recently we decided to complete the crawlspace project by having the insulation removed from the floor joists as well as having insulation board installed on the concrete cinderblock, collectively known as "finishing the crawlspace". If you need foundation work done, do yourself a favor and request Jay Yount at Tar Heel Basements. I had several companies come out, and Jay was the only one who approached my sagging floor issues with real expertise and a no-nonsense attitude. He spent hours carefully analyzing the problem and provided an honest, straightforward assessment with zero pressure. It's clear he takes pride in his work and values doing things the right way. More companies need people like Jay, and if his management is smart, they'll make sure he's moving up.

We heard about Tarheel Basement Systems through some local radio advertisements on 2 Guys Named Chris – called and met with a very knowledgeable company representative. We decided to get some much needed basement/crawl space work done and are very happy with the finished result. The number one thing we have noticed besides the dry basement is that our air quality inside our house is so much better. That alone was worth having the work done, not having to worry about moisture and mold are just added benefits. Thank you, the process from start to finish was very smooth and the crew was very professional and did a wonderful job!

I went into this basement project a little nervous, it seemed like a big commitment to put this amount of trust into Tar Heel Basement Systems. We had a long term problem with water ponding in the crawl space underneath our home anytime it rained. We had multiple people come out to try and diagnose the source of the leak, but none of them were 100% certain. Tar Heel Basement Systems blew me away immediately. The inspector, Dave Brereton, came out and within 15 minutes had identified the root cause as well as a plan to fix it. A few weeks later, the crew came out and completed the job in under two days. The difference is unbelievable. From Dave to the install crew, this company knows their stuff and conducts themselves professionally. A great experience, and I encourage anyone with similar problems to give them a chance. Thank you Dave and crew!

Tar Heel is a great company to work with from start to finish. Jamie came out for the initial inspection and estimate. I was very impressed with his knowledge. Later, when I had some unexpected expenses, he was able to modify the project to fit within my revised budget. The finished project was perfect. The workers were punctual, efficient, and neat. They explained everything before leaving and were very pleasant. And my basement has stayed dry! I would recommend Tar Heel for any basement project.

The crew that did the work were exceptional. Aside from being friendly they were very professional. They kept me informed with each step they did along with sending me photos. When the work was completed, they showed me what each process did. The cleanup was exceptional. If you didn’t see the soil where the drain line went. You of never knew anyone was here. A plus service from the crew!!!

The specific project is floor stabilization with minor lift but that isn't an option so i picked encapsulation instead (which K do intend to gave Tar Heel do, down the line). Jay Yount was great salesperson and Ceritified Field Inspector. Foreman David P and crew mates Ernesto "Nestor" and James C were knowledgeable and efficient, arrived on time and got the job done in two days. Results of the floor stabilization were communicated to me clearly before, during and after the work was performed. All my expectations were at least met. Would definitely recommend Tar Heel to friends and family.

From start to finish, everything went great. Jay was thorough and answered ALL of our questions. He even reviewed the competition's proposal! The communication was fantastic every step of the way. The installation was a complicated one being that we have a 100+ year old farmhouse. Tyrese and Stephen had quite the challenge! They did a phenomenal job and really went above and beyond. They worked so hard and did an excellent job of explaining things. Five stars all day

We had the crawlspace encapsulated and a dehumidifier installed a few months ago. The crew did a great job. Very neat, and very professional. Today Joel came out to answer a question I had about the dehumidifier. He answered my question, AND did a full reinspection of the space and equipment, just to make sure everything was right! Like everyone else we've worked with at Groundworks, Joel was very professional, and friendly. He communicated his plan for the visit, and went over the results. Overall, a great experience!

Tar Heel basement systems goes over and beyond their obligations to satisfy their customers even several years past. They came out and retaped some of the seams in the vapor barrier and cleaned the barrier where some water had pooled. I highly recommend them and their service technician (Jacob ) went over and beyond his duties to satisfy me as a customer. He readjusted my dehumidifier to the proper settings. Get them to help you! You won’t regret it! Superior service!
