Get involved with Watauga County’s Back 2 School Festival
As many parents and students know, the school year is approaching fast! It’s time to buy those new clothes, fill those backpacks and coif that messy summer hair. Similar to Guilford County’s need for school supply donations, Watauga County has also organized a way to give back to the community, helping prepare kids and families for the upcoming school year.
The Back 2 School Festival will be giving away kits of many different school supplies to registered children, thrift store gift cards, haircuts, fun activities, food and free shoes courtesy of The Children’s Council, Western Youth Network, Hospitality House, Women’s Fund of the Blue Ridge, Quiet Givers and Watauga County Schools. These organizations, as well as Tar Heel Basement Systems, want to make sure the kids going back to school feel confident and secure in their preparedness to succeed and grow this year. Too many children hop on the bus without backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks and other necessary learning tools. This is where the community comes in!
To get involved in this amazing event, school supply donations are being accepted at Tar Heel Basement Systems’ Boone office at 206 Southgate Drive, right next to Hunan Restaurant. A list of needed supplies can be found below.
Another way to pitch in is to clean out your closet! Bring any unwanted, gently used clothing to either our Boone or Winston-Salem office at 2910 Griffith Road right off of Hanes Mall Blvd. For every 3 articles of clothing donated, participating thrift stores will donate $1 to the Back 2 School Festival, supplying Watauga kids with the tools necessary to succeed.
