Construction Career Days Aims to Recruit Young Talent
Monday, November 9th, 2015
This past week, the Winston Salem Chamber’s Construction Industry Council hosted “Construction Career Days” at the Fairgrounds. This biennial event compiles high school students from 16 surrounding counties that show interest in a career in the construction industry. This year, more than 25 local companies exhibited at the 2-day event, offering hands-on activities for more than 1500 North Carolina students. Some of the interactive booths included driving bulldozers, laying brick, welding and lifting concrete slabs with a structural foam.
Tar Heel Basement Systems’ Foreman, Bobby Luttrell, offered live demonstrations throughout the event, allowing the kids to tour and operate the state of the art PolyRenewal™ rig. He stated, “the best part was interacting with the kids, especially those that were truly interested and asking questions about what it is we do.” After speaking with close to 2000 kids over a two-day period, Bobby thinks the construction industry has a bright future!
Assistant Marketing Director at Tar Heel Basement Systems, Jaimie Hooker, said, “the entire experience was very rewarding. It was great to see young adults excited about a career in a field that I have such a passion for.”
Tar Heel Basement Systems is proud to be a part of positively influencing our youth’s future. We plan on participating in multiple career fairs at local high schools over the next year. Additionally, we will be offering internships to students for different positions in our company.
