Tar Heel Basement Systems was nominated for the Business Journal’s Healthiest Workplace Award in 2014 and while we were not selected as one of the finalists for the “Healthiest Employer,” our company continues to promote employee wellness. To this end, the Tar Heel management team has announced their most recent effort to improve employee wellness- “THBS Biggest Loser Competition.”
This light-hearted, fun competition is intended to help our employees eat healthier and exercise more. The event will run through the month of June with weigh-ins ever Monday. Initial weigh-in was June 2nd and the final weigh-in is on June 30th. The employees (one male, one female) that have lost the most weight during the four-week competition will each be awarded a company-paid weekend beach trip.
The company’s weekly wellness newsletter, “The Healthy Heel,” will highlight employees progress and offer tips and advice on healthier food choices and exercise regiments to ensure weight loss is in a healthy manner. You can also follow us on Facebook to track weekly progress!
Anyone that is familiar with Tar Heel Basements knows about our company’s “Pay It Forward” initiative to help local, national and international non-profit organizations. In an effort to continue this mission, Team Tar Heel has found a way to use our company fitness competition to give back to national charities. Charity Miles is an exercise app that works double-time, tracking mileage and raising money for different causes. All users need to do is download the free app on your iPhone/Android and get active! Bikers earn 10 cents per mile while walkers and runners can earn 25 cents per mile for the charity of their choice. Charity Miles is self-funding the initial $1 million in donations, covering the app’s first users. Users must share their activity on Facebook and Twitter in order for the charities to receive donations. There are more than 25 incredible charities that you can earn money for by simply taking a long walk each day. There are no limitations to which charities you can help.
Want to get fit and give back? You can join our team! Once you download the app, join the Tar Heel Basement Systems team by entering #teamthbs in the “add team” category. This will track how many miles each individual and as a company, we are running/walking/biking and how much we have donated.
