As part of our Pay It Forward program, it is extremely important to us to help those in need during the holiday season. This time of year is especially hard for some families, and we feel it is important to help those less fortunate than us. We are partnering with the Children’s Council of Watauga County to help make the holidays special for (20) underprivileged children this Joyous holiday season.
The Children’s Council is an organization that helps provide opportunities and services to the families of Watauga County and surrounding areas. The mission of the council is “to build a strong foundation for children’s learning and development by strengthening families, the early childhood system, and the wider community.” They are closely involved with DSS, Oasis, and their Local shelter. They have a diaper bank at their office and gave out over 50,000 diapers in the last fiscal year. They also help provide affordable child care, family support services, and educational programs.
This year they already have a very lengthy list of families asking for help, so we are doing our part by making an Angel Tree. We will place 20 angels on our office Christmas tree with the name of a child in need, their age, gender, clothing/shoe size, and any particular wish list items. Our employees will then be able to choose an angel and help make a family’s holiday truly special.
We announced the THBS Angel Tree Project on Monday and all 20 of the angels have already been claimed by a Tar Heel Basement Systems employee. In fact, a few of our employees have already bought and returned their angel’s holiday gifts! Each child’s gift packages will be returned to the Children’s Council of Watauga County on Monday, December 15th to be delivered to the families.
With only a week to shop, we are proud to announce that our employees donated more than 100 items to the boys and girls of Watauga County this past Christmas. This included clothes, toys, shoes, etc. All that we asked is that each “angel” receive at least 1 gift, but our employees went above and beyond. Each child received a minimum of 3 gifts from Tar Heel Basement Systems.
