Recently, the Tar Heel Basement Systems team has partnered up with the Watauga Humane Society in Boone to raise money, supplies, and awareness for animals in need. Incorporated in 1969, this not-for-profit charitable organization has been ensuring the well-being of homeless animals for 45 years.
The founders started the organization in an attempt to humanely tackle animal control in the rural Appalachian counties where lost or abused animals are exposed to some of the harshest weather in the Southern states.
Over the years, the Watauga Humane Society has been working hard to rescue, spay, neuter, care for and adopt out animals to “forever homes”. They also take pride in educating the public about the importance of population control and responsible animal ownership.
Tar Heel Basement Systems was thrilled to get involved with this amazing cause and has organized a number of fundraising activities and events including a company-wide Facebook pet picture contest.
Our most recent drive, held at both Boone and Winston-Salem offices, collected $135 dollars in total donations, $100 from the wonderful Pete Burgess. Our food and supply drive totaled to over 100 cans of wet food and 100 pounds of dry food for both cats and dogs, as well as treats and puppy pads.
An upcoming event we are very excited to sponsor is the 3rdAnnual Watauga Humane Society Golf Tournament hosted by the Blowing Rock Country Club. It will be held on Friday, May 16 with a shotgun start at 1:30 that afternoon.
Tar Heel has two foursomes ready to compete as well as three volunteers to make sure the event goes off without a hitch. We hope to see a great turnout of enthusiastic golfers competing for prizes, supporting the Watauga Humane Society and all of the great things they do for the community and animals in need of some unconditional TLC.
