Reader to Reader, Inc. is a public charity that is dedicated to bringing books to some of the nation’s poorest communities, including inner-city schools and poor rural towns, where books are in highest demand.
According to readertoreader.org, 60% of underprivileged children do not own a single book. Most of the children in lower income families depend on the school and public libraries in order to experience the gift of reading. It is for this reason that Tar Heel Basement Systems has chosen to host a book drive to Join the Reader to Reader initiative.
During the month of February, our employees are asked to donate books, new and used, to the learning box at our Winston Salem office location. Our primary focus for this drive is to collect books for preK-5th-grade students. All children’s books collected during the THBS Book Drive will be hand delivered to North Graham Elementary School at the beginning of March. However, all books are accepted and any books donated that are suitable for older ages will be shipped directly to Reader to Reader, Inc. headquarters to be dispersed to communities in need throughout the nation.
The THBS Book Drive will be welcoming books from February 16 through March 2.
Tracy Taylor, a teacher at North Graham Elementary School stated, “North Graham Elementary has a little less than 400 students. Books are often hard to find in many of our student’s homes so the gift of reading is extremely rare and special!”
Knowledge is power so let’s work together today to equip our children with the tools necessary to succeed tomorrow! Tar Heel Basement Systems strives to improve the lives of everyone we encounter by inspiring our employees to live by the Golden Rule and challenge industry standards.
