Jess W and Zach B came out and FULLY explained everything they were going to do. They went about their job immediately and completed it in short order, with NO shortcuts. They explained to me why it had settled in a year's time and what it would take to fix it. Today Joel came out to answer a question I had about the dehumidifier. He answered my question, AND did a full reinspection of the space and equipment, just to make sure everything was right! Like everyone else we've worked with at Groundworks, Joel was very professional, and friendly. He communicated his plan for the visit, and went over the results. Overall, a great experience!

And I must say, Jagwon and Stanley who installed my basement system clearly are proud of their product and of their company. These two men arrived on time, were extremely polite and courteous, worked hard and very fast to give me (the client) the best job possible. Jagmon spent the necessary time with me to answer all my questions and kept me in the loop so I knew what all the steps were and why they were important. My only regret is I only have one basement to do. But you can bet I will be telling my friends and neighbors where they must go for solving their basement issues…Tar Heel Basement Systems!

Their communication was on point and if I ever had questions throughout the process I was able to call and get piece of mind. They worked around my schedule and I even had to push back my install date for personal reasons, they worked with me through it all, no questions asked. Rob Philips was the inspector and gave me a very detailed report of what was going on and talked me through the best solutions. The job site crew, Ian A., Ian B., Ethan, and Justin were very efficient and personable. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I have now been working with John Cotten who was first my Groundworks SALES REP and is.now functioning as my PROJECT MANAGER. He has the second role as a result of the exceptional job he did in the initial role. Needless to say, agreeing to a complete crawlspace encapsulation was not an easy sell. It was a big budget, unplanned project that I resisted doing . But due to the thoroughness of John’s investigation of my issues and complete and detailed plan that addressed every one of my concerns, it was difficult to not move ahead. John knows the business of foundations- the problems and how to resolve them. His communication skills and desire to help his clients save their homes couple to create a dialog that is engaging, informative and even comforting when knowing the end result will be a better home. And after the sale, he is always reachable, responsive and makes me feel he is not only working for Groundworks, but also for me!!

Brian and John was so professional, crawl space looks so much better, and they cleaned up their scrap. I'm anxious for a damp free crawl space. Robert and Steven, James and Brandon all did a very good job with the basement waterproofing. Everything looks so good and they cleaned their scrap too. Can't wait for a damp free basement. Seth Brown, the inspector that gave us the quote was very nice too. I recommend Tar Heel Basement to anybody. Their staff is great.

I have worked with many contractors in Wilmington over the years–here's what made this experience remarkable: they showed up every day and worked all day, and they were very friendly and communicative throughout. The date I was given for this back in October was the date they showed up. No delays, and once they started, they saw it through to the end. I went with Tarheel Basement Systems to have my crawlspace encapsulated. I liked the Sean Madden gave but I have to admit the follow up was spotty. I was given dates work would be done but I had to call to find out exact times. I expected a little more communication but, in the end, Tarheel showed up when they said they would, and they did the work they promised. Macai and Fred did a great job encapsulating the crawlspace. I'm pretty picky and I went down and inspected things myself. There is no way I could have done a good a job as they did. The work these guys do is grueling in unsavory conditions. I had a small issue with the crawlspace door and dehumidifier pump, but both were fixed in short order. In the end I'm happy with how things turned out and I would recommend Tarheel to anyone looking to get their crawlspace encapsulated.

We used Tar Heel Basement Systems repair a rotted sill beam on the front of our 100+ year old house. From the time Clint showed up to do our estimate untill the crew left having completed the work it was a great experience. Clint was very thorough and ensured we understood everything before he left. When the crew arrived the Foreman, Evan spoke in terms I as the homeowner could understand. He went over everything again and made sure I knew the scope of work, the time line, etc. Matt and Cody did a great job. They made quick work of getting all the old insulation out of the crawlspace. They all did a great job with the structural work and that did one last walk around and picked up all the old insulation down to the smallest pieces. Very professional crew

Tar Heel basement systems goes over and beyond their obligations to satisfy their customers even several years past. They came out and retaped some of the seams in the vapor barrier and cleaned the barrier where some water had pooled. I highly recommend them and their service technician (Jacob ) went over and beyond his duties to satisfy me as a customer. He readjusted my dehumidifier to the proper settings. Get them to help you! You won’t regret it! Superior service!

My family moved into a new house 3 weeks ago. The seller declined to fill out a disclosure, so we’re finding all of its issues through a combination of our general home inspection and contractors. The first call I made to get an opinion on my potential foundation issue might be Tar Heel’s main competitor in the area: Carolina Basement systems. That rep came out, pointed to a couple of cracks in my trim, showed a 1/4” difference in height on different sides of my basement, and insisted I needed 19 helical piers at a cost of $42k. He also tried to sell me 17k worth of waterproofing despite having no known water intrusion issues. I knew I needed a second opinion. I called Tar Heel basement systems next. They sent out Colin Schmid. He sat down with me and asked me what my goals were and he actually listened to what I told him. He did an assessment of my foundation and determined I don’t actually need any work at all. All of the “evidence” cited by the other company was actually a combination of poor workmanship, an imperfect slab pour and cosmetic issues that weren’t at all related to my foundation. He came to that conclusion rather quickly, but stayed for 2 hours to confirm his findings and be sure that what he was telling me was true. Colin could’ve piggybacked the other company’s findings and offered to do the work for less, to sell me something I didn’t need… instead, he acted with integrity. I’m writing this review because I think that needs to be commended. If I ever do need foundation work in the future, Tar Heel Basements systems will be the first company I call, specifically because of Colin Schmid.

He was absolutely phenomenal, and reaffirms why I choose Tar Heel basement and am able to have peace of mind and put my trust in this company. He was prompt, transparent, and thorough with his inspection, as well as being patient, friendly, and very professional. He sat down and explained everything he found, what he would recommend, and made me feel that he did have my best interest at heart and that I was being taken care of, which is rare to find now.

When an issue came up concerning the crawlspace door, they made sure to contact the manager and a custom door was made for the space. I did have to call and inquiry about a few things and return visits but they were reaponsive and made sure the job was done. Great install team!!

We had 2 segments of work done: (1) adding piers to the front foundation of our house, and (2) adding a beam and some piers in the crawlspace to a center section of the house to better support some interior walls. We were very impressed by everyone at Tar Heel Basement Systems from beginning to end – from the initial analysis and proposal to the actual work to follow-up. John Reavis was very professional, thorough, and knowledgeable when he performed the initial site visit and put together a proposal for us. He was also very good about following up and communicating in general. Both crews who did the work were very confident, professional, and courteous. They really seemed like they knew what they were doing and took their time to make sure it was done right. They also were very good about communicating arrival times and progress on the 2 projects. Everyone we spoke with at the office was very helpful during the whole process. In particular, we had multiple interactions with Morgan about scheduling, arranging payment, and follow-up paperwork. We had some bad weather when the work was originally scheduled to be done, but everyone stayed in touch with us and made rescheduling easy. Tar Heel might be more expensive than some other options, but this is a case where you truly get what you pay for. We can't imagine anyone doing a better job.
