Our house had been settling over the past couple decades. Our swing thru kitchen door wouldn’t “swing through” the doorway anymore and the floor in the middle of the house was bowed. Austin G, Tremaine and Chris O. came out, added 4 permanent jacks under the house and made a significant difference to our home in about 4 hours time! The kitchen door swings through the frame again. My family moved into a new house 3 weeks ago. The seller declined to fill out a disclosure, so we’re finding all of its issues through a combination of our general home inspection and contractors. The first call I made to get an opinion on my potential foundation issue might be Tar Heel’s main competitor in the area: Carolina Basement systems. That rep came out, pointed to a couple of cracks in my trim, showed a 1/4” difference in height on different sides of my basement, and insisted I needed 19 helical piers at a cost of $42k. He also tried to sell me 17k worth of waterproofing despite having no known water intrusion issues. I knew I needed a second opinion. I called Tar Heel basement systems next. They sent out Colin Schmid. He sat down with me and asked me what my goals were and he actually listened to what I told him. He did an assessment of my foundation and determined I don’t actually need any work at all. All of the “evidence” cited by the other company was actually a combination of poor workmanship, an imperfect slab pour and cosmetic issues that weren’t at all related to my foundation. He came to that conclusion rather quickly, but stayed for 2 hours to confirm his findings and be sure that what he was telling me was true. Colin could’ve piggybacked the other company’s findings and offered to do the work for less, to sell me something I didn’t need… instead, he acted with integrity. I’m writing this review because I think that needs to be commended. If I ever do need foundation work in the future, Tar Heel Basements systems will be the first company I call, specifically because of Colin Schmid.

Worth every penny, very happy from start to finish. We opted for the complete crawl space encapsulation, moisture control, and floor leveling. When the work was done and we discovered that their original plan missed a key leveling issue, they promptly came back out and did the extra work at no charge to us. Today Joel came out to answer a question I had about the dehumidifier. He answered my question, AND did a full reinspection of the space and equipment, just to make sure everything was right! We had Robert Penny, Service Technician, to inspect our under house dehumidifier (we had TarHeel Basement perform a complete encapsulation several years ago). He was very thorough with his diagnosis and replaced the clogged filter with a new one. Robert was very competent and conscientious with his work – he wanted to make sure we were completely satisfied with his service call before leaving. I went into this basement project a little nervous, it seemed like a big commitment to put this amount of trust into Tar Heel Basement Systems. We had a long term problem with water ponding in the crawl space underneath our home anytime it rained. We had multiple people come out to try and diagnose the source of the leak, but none of them were 100% certain. Tar Heel Basement Systems blew me away immediately. The inspector, Dave Brereton, came out and within 15 minutes had identified the root cause as well as a plan to fix it. A few weeks later, the crew came out and completed the job in under two days. The difference is unbelievable. From Dave to the install crew, this company knows their stuff and conducts themselves professionally. A great experience, and I encourage anyone with similar problems to give them a chance. Thank you Dave and crew!

We were concerned this would damage our floor joists at some point. We are so thankful for Certified Field Inspector Jay Yount. He spent more than an hour inspecting our crawl space and making recommendations as well as presenting proposals to work with our budget.
